Dressing Granite
a Cornish story, a Cornish feature film

Dressing Granite is the first feature film from a team of established Cornish filmmakers. It tells the story of two fiercely independent Cornish quarrymen, who "don't owe nuthen to no one", and are overtaken by the System. Ben, becoming increasingly ill with Alzheimer's disease, wanders in and out of present reality and Matthew faces the loss of his father, his home and his inheritance. However, in the face of adversity, Matthew discovers the true continuity of life.
This full-length feature film is about identity, about discovering who we are and knowing who we want to be. Set in the present, it explores the complex relationship between father and son and addresses powerful issues surrounding family ties, the challenges of illness, and the tension between tradition and progress. It dramatises universal life experiences and human fears and emotions that audiences all over the world will be able to relate to.
The team behind Dressing Granite (writer Pauline Sheppard, director Bill Scott and producer Laura Hardman) are all Cornish based film makers, who are making a home grown feature film that will challenge other low budget feature films on national and international platforms. The film has been made possible by Cornwall Film (an EU funded organisation) as part of the Target Talent scheme. “Cornwall Film are delighted to be supporting the production of this uniquely Cornish story. The project offers opportunities for local cast and crew to work together on a professional feature, and we hope the final film will go on to showcase the strengths of Cornwall's media industry to an international audience.” says Pippa Best, director of Cornwall Film.
Dressing Granite is currently being filmed on location all over Cornwall - from Sennen to Falmouth - over six weeks in March and April. As well as offering a great opportunity to the experienced crew members and creative team, the production will provide several students and trainees with a fantastic hands-on learning experience. Keep an eye on the day-to-day production process by checking out the film’s website www.dressinggranite.net.
The film is being made on a ‘micro-budget’ and the producers are still seeking further support, sponsorship or donations for the film. They have also launched a campaign to help raise funds for the film by offering people a chance to pre-purchase a limited edition DVD of the film.
