On paper this sounds like another sugary period movie, but take a closer look and you will find much more, (as you would expect from the director of Monster’s Ball.) The story tracks how Barrie came to write Peter Pan, inspired by a widow, Sylvia (Winslet) and her brood of four sons who he befriends in a London park one day, and, although his bond with the family is platonic, rumours abound. Forster’s direction captures perfectly Barrie’s thin line between reality and fantasy, and draws an inspired performance from Depp.
